CLARIFICATION ON THE INVESTMENT IN CAMBODIA
No. EGCO 350/021
Date : January 30, 2003
Attn : President of the Stock Exchange of Thailand
Subject: Clarification on the investment in Cambodia
According to the striking Anti-Thai riot in Cambodia yesterday, this situation will
conduct impacts on Thai People and Thai investment in Cambodia consecutively.
Referring to the report to SET on July 2, 2002, Electricity Generating Public Company
Limited (EGCOMP) signed the Memorandum of Understanding of the Progress of
Implementation Agreement with Ministry of Industry Mines and Energy (MIME) for
conducting the feasibility study and development of the Project of High Voltage
Transmission System for receiving the electrical power at the inter-connection point at
Cambodia-Thailand border and delivering to the 3 provinces of Cambodia: Banteay Mean Chey,
Battambang and Siem Reap , under the Power Cooperation Agreement between the Government of
the Kingdom of Thailand and Cambodia and Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand
(EGAT) signed the Power Purchase Agreement with Electricite du Cambodge(EDC).
EGCOMP would like to additionally inform the SET that this project is currently in the
process of feasibility study and negotiation. In term of accounting basis, EGCOMP has
no capitalized asset under this project in our balance sheet and the EGCOMP investment
decision for the project in Cambodia needs to be awaited and further revised.
In conclusion, this striking Anti-Thai riot in Cambodia has no impact to EGCOMP
investment at all.
Yours sincerely,
Kraisi Karnasuta
President
