EGCO Group Boosts Domestic Electricity Portfolio with “Banpong” SPP Power Plant Kick-Off

Mr. Jakgrich Pibulpairoj, President of Electricity Generating Public Company Limited or EGCO Group revealed that “EGCO Group has successfully completed the construction of “Banpong” power project, a wholly owned subsidiary of EGCO Group, which started its commercial operation on October 1, 2017 and that EGCO Group would recognize the additional income generated by the new power plant from the fourth quarter this year onwards. In the meantime, Banpong power plant with its cogeneration system has an advantage of supporting efficient fuel consumption which partly enhances the country’s power security.” 

Banpong power plant, located in Tapha Sub-district, Banpong District, Ratchaburi Province, is driven by the cogeneration system and fueled by natural gas. It consists of 2 units with the gross electricity output of 256 MW. Each unit has the total installed capacity of 128 MW comprising 2 gas turbines producing 44 MW each and a 40 MW stream turbine. The power plant sells its 180 MW electricity output to Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand under a 25-year firm PPA for SPP scheme while the rest of the electricity output and stream from electricity generating process will be sold to the industrial users.
