EGCO Group kicks off “Oil Pipeline System to Northeastern Region”, supporting its goal of achieving Net Zero

4 October 2023

Electricity Generating Public Company Limited or EGCO Group fully commenced the operation of the “Oil Pipeline System to Northeastern Region” on 4 October 2023. The project is operated by Thai Pipeline Network Company Limited (TPN), in which EGCO Group holds 44.6% stakes, and will reduce carbon emissions and enable the company transition to a low-carbon society. The project will also strengthen EGCO Group’s energy-related businesses, especially the fuel and other infrastructure business group.

Mr. Thepparat Theppitak, EGCO Group’s President, said that the commencement of the “Oil Pipeline System to Northeastern Region” operation will enhance the company’s energy-related businesses, particularly the fuel and other infrastructure business group. The project will reduce carbon emissions by 80,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year. TPN’s customers will receive carbon credits from using this energy service. The project will also support EGCO Group’s long-term goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

The pipeline system is a large-scale project which is important to the country’s overall economy. The project effectively supports the government’s policy and directly addresses the rising oil demand in the northeastern region. Meanwhile, it will help increase efficiency in oil supply in the northeast while reducing costs, traffic and risk of road accidents.

TPN operates the oil pipeline system to the northeastern region and the oil depot. The pipeline system covers a total distance of 342 kilometers and has an annual transport capacity of up to 5,443 million liters. TPN’s pipeline connects the oil depot of Thai Petroleum Pipeline Co., Ltd. (Thappline) in Saraburi province with TPN’s oil depot in Ban Phai district of Khon Kaen province which has 157-million-liter storage capacity, which is the largest and most modern in the northeastern region. The project has started providing service to oil trucks from leading Thai oil retailers since September 2023.
