Electricity Generating Public Company Limited or EGCO Group has earned two prestigious honors at the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2025: the Green Leadership Award, recognizing its clear commitment to becoming a low-carbon organization, and the Investment in People Award, for its ongoing development of the Khanom Learning Center. This marks EGCO Group’s fourth time receiving AREA recognition, underscoring its regional reputation for sustainable business practices, proactive climate action, and dedication to fostering life-long learning about energy and the environment among youth.
Mr. Vichan Sripairoj, Executive Vice President-Power Plant Management, EGCO Group, said that EGCO Group has operated its power and energy-related businesses under the ESG framework for over 33 years. In line with its goal of becoming a low-carbon organization, the company has developed a clear three-phase roadmap. In 1st Phase, EGCO Group aims to increase electricity generation from renewable sources to 30% of its total capacity by 2030. 2nd Phase targets achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, and 3rd Phase sets the goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This structured roadmap reflects EGCO Group’s strong commitment to mitigating the impacts of climate change and actively supporting the global energy transition.
In its commitment to community and social development, EGCO Group has leveraged its expertise in the electricity business to promote awareness and knowledge about energy and the environment, particularly among the youth. A key initiative is the establishment and ongoing support of the Khanom Learning Center in Nakhon Si Thammarat. Since its opening in 2019, the learning center has welcomed over 80,000 visitors and continues to expand its outreach through engaging activities and a growing network of partners. Highlights include participation in the National Science and Technology Fair for two consecutive years and conducting an annual Science Fair at the learning center. Its “Scientific Innovation Discovery Journey” exhibition in 2024 drew more than 20,000 visitors, with an 95% average satisfaction score. In addition, the center collaborates with the National Science Museum to develop knowledge and promote education on energy, science, technology, innovation, and environmental issues benefiting both the youth and the wider public.
“Receiving the region’s AREA 2025 awards remarkably emphasizes EGCO Group’s commitment in driving us towards the low-carbon organization goal and supporting young people’s learning and understanding about energy and the environment. Our sustainable development initiatives not only enable us to participate in caring for the environment and society under the sustainable development framework, but also emphasizes our corporate vision of to “be a major sustainable Thai energy company with full commitment to environment protection and social development support,” said Mr. Vicharn.
AREA was organized by Enterprise Asia, a leading non-governmental organization promoting Asian businesses with outstanding social and environment responsibility. EGCO Group has been consistently recognized at the AREA for its impactful initiatives. In 2023, the company received the Investment in People Award for its “Energy Teacher” online course, which empowers educators to enhance energy teaching effectiveness through digital tools and apply energy-related knowledge in everyday life. In 2022, EGCO Group was honored with the Green Leadership Award for its “EGCO Ecosystem” project - an internal waste management initiative that encourages employees to understand waste types and take action in waste separation. In 2021, the company also received the Investment in People Award for the “Khanom Learning Center”, an out-of-classroom educational facility designed to teach youth, local communities, and the public about the history of electricity, power generation process, local way of life in Khanom district, and the harmonious coexistence between power plants, communities and the environment.
