Electricity Generating Plc (EGCOMP) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Amata Power Co Ltd in order to establish a new company which will produce and supply steam and electricity to factories in Bangpakong Industrial Park II industrial estate, and feed electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under the SPP programme, EGCOMP reported. It will supply 60-Megawat electricity to EGAT in accordance with the SPP scheme (Small Power Producers). The two partners will work out the registered capital of the new firm later. Amata Power Co Ltd will hold 51% while EGCOMP will hold more than 25%. The rest will go to interested financial institutions. The new power-steam plant will have a combined capacity of power and steam production of 180-190 Megawat. It will be operating by using the combined cycle technology, which will use natural gas from the Petroleum Authority of Thailand as the main fuel while the exhaust gas from gas turbine will be used in what is technically called co-generation. This, according to a filing by EGCOMP, will boost the generation system efficiency. The two partners are finalizing the study on production size and preliminary technical aspects of the project. The power-steam plant is expected to become operational early 1997 and is scheduled to go full steam in the middle of the same year. The project value is about Bt3.5 billion. Translated by The Nation
