CLARIFICATION ON THE NEWS REGARDING INVESTING IN HIN KRUDE

No. EGCO 310/397 Date : August 7, 2000 Attn: The President of the Stock Exchange of Thailand Subject:Clarification on the news regarding investing in Hin Krude Power Plant Referring to the news on Business day dated August 7, 2000 stated that Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCOMP) is preparing to take a 56 percent stake in Hin Krude power project in place of Singapore Power International. EGCOMP would like to clarify that the mentioned statement is false. In addition, EGCOMP strongly confirms that EGCOMP has policy for development and operation which places high priority for natural resources and environmental conservation. Any impact to local people must be in the base of mutual benefit, the important principle of other stakeholders' interest preservation and care, which is part of the Good corporate governance.
